Basemats are usually made of either glass or metal and are usually painted black.
They may be covered with plastic.
Glass or metal membranes are the most common, and are the least likely to have defects.
Glass membranes are more likely to fail, and they are typically stronger than metal membranes.
Basements are usually filled with insulation.
The membrane is usually painted with a bright color.
A glass membrane is typically covered with an acrylic paint that is painted black or silver, depending on the material.
Glass membrane is commonly used in basements to protect against humidity.
In basements that are insulated, glass membranes are usually covered with glass or other thin, light colored material.
Glass is thicker and more rigid than metal.
The insulation is thinner and less dense than the glass.
Glass membranes are sometimes used in exterior walls and ceilings to protect the interior of the building.
Glass may be used in place of concrete, or as an insulator.
Glass is usually used in buildings where it is required to prevent moisture from entering.
Glass insulators are sometimes installed in place, as well.

The polymer is then glued to a substrate that is made out of a similar polymer.

Some materials used in insulating roofs are polyethylenes.
